addictive tunes

My dear friend hermione asked me recently which tunes I’ve been hooked on recently, and of course I could think of nothing at the time. But my iTunes ‘most played’ list reveals all for the last month:

Elliot Smith - everything he’s ever released. Especially XO album. Hooked on Elliot and all albums on high ipod rotation.

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois album.
This album can get so grand and orchestral, it’s almost silly. He’s a bit religious in this album (as I would say, he gets a bit ‘goddy’), but if you’re not into that don’t let it put you off as he’s still a brilliant songwriter and musician, and I appreciate his passion.

The Divine Comedy - Tracks ‘Our Mutual Friend’, ‘A Lady of a certain age’ and ‘Diva Lady’.
The first two tracks I mentioned are truly addictive. I’m sure they have more good tracks, but I haven’t found them yet, all their other stuff annoys me.

The Cure - Primary, A forest and Boys Dont Cry (a retro moment courtesy of James dropping in from Belgium). Many years later these tracks still sound good and true.

Pimsleur - Mp3 Japanese lessons.
I’ve forgotten everything I’ve learned in the past, and trying to get up to speed on my Japanese before my trip to Tokyo in May

The Fratellis - Costello Music EP.
The super catchy tune ‘Flathead’ was featured on an iTunes ad and I got hooked from there. Rather ashamed to say for the first time I didn’t know the band before Apple promoted them, so therefore I feel rather uncool now. Still after hearing their EP I’m hooked.

Gotan Project
After I saw them at the Opera House, they were far better than I expected, huge, grand, superior visuals and lighting, and overall a very very well tuned/sync’d show.  They took my breath away at times, and many times made me regret that in my tiered opera house seating I wasn’t able to get up and dance.

I’ve also just checked my all time ‘most played’ songlist on my ipod (which spans 2 years) and it’s rather interesting, and very personal. Interesting how a playlist can be so revealing, I’ll save the detail for close friends, as it shows my obsessive nature more than I wish to publish online. s
